Why “Mimesis”
Mimesis refers to imitation, representation, and the shaping of reality through symbolic systems. As artificial intelligence systems increasingly generate language, images, and decisions, questions of representation and mediation become central to civic and cultural life.
The name MIMESIS also reflects the Institute’s focus on machine intelligence, media evolution, and symbolic and interpretive systems.
engages these questions through research, art, publications, workshops, and public dialogue.
